What is Prp and What is the Mechanism of Action?

It is the process of taking the blood of the person into special tubes, passing it through a special centrifugation process and then returning the part rich in cells called platelets back to the patient.

While it was previously thought that platelets played a role in wound healing only in the coagulation part, in recent scientific studies, it has been determined that platelets activate many important cells, thus accelerating tissue regeneration and healing. They do this with the help of the growth factors they contain. When activated, they secrete growth factors and increase the collagen synthesis of fibroblasts and the formation of new capillaries. The production and level of growth factors decrease with age. With PRP, a much higher number of platelets and the growth factors contained in them are delivered to the target area than can be transported by the blood circulation.

While the platelet concentration is normally 200 000 platelets/ul, for PRP to be effective it must be approximately 1 000 000 platelets/ul. Thrombin or calcium is used to activate platelets.

PRP, which was developed for surgical procedures, is used in dermatology for chronic wound and ulcer care and has recently been used in aesthetic medicine. In aesthetic medicine; It is used in skin rejuvenation, hair loss (especially androgenetic alopecia), acne scars and melasma. But the most effective area is hair loss.

3-6 sessions are recommended every 2-4 weeks and maintenance treatment is recommended once a year.

It takes approximately 1 hour, including local anaesthetic application, which takes 20-30 minutes.

The effect occurs after 8-12 weeks, PRP is more of a future investment.

It should not be performed in patients with critically low platelet count, coagulation factor deficiencies, sepsis (infection in the blood), anticoagulant therapy, allergic patients, pregnant and breastfeeding, acute and chronic infections, tumours and autoimmune diseases.

Injection-related side effects such as flushing and bruising may occur.
