Psoriasis, known as psoriasis, is an autoimmune disease with a chronic course, the cause of which is not clear, but genetic factors are effective. The treatment of psoriasis varies according to the affected area and its prevalence. Since the treatment will be long-term, the patient’s compliance with the treatment planning is very important. Many patients also have metabolic problems such as obesity, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia. These conditions are also taken into consideration when planning the treatment.

In mild and moderate cases with limited lesions, appropriate skin creams are used. The most commonly used creams are those containing cortisone. In addition, the more moist the skin is kept, the less lesions will occur. Drugs containing vitamin D and coal tar are other topical treatment options.

In severe cases of psoriasis, systemic drugs are used in addition to phototherapy and topical creams are added to the treatment. Systemic drug treatment is preferred especially in cases of arthritis and nail involvement. Cancer drugs such as methotrexate, cyclosporine, vitamin A derivatives known as retinoids, biological agents are among systemic drugs. Blood tests should be routinely performed and liver and kidney functions should be closely monitored in patients in whom systemic treatment is initiated.

In psoriasis, there are conditions that trigger and exacerbate the disease. These include throat infections, urinary tract inflammation, tooth decay, skin damage by scratching, abrasions and scratches, emotional problems, painful events and stress. It will also be beneficial for patients to receive psychological support to cope with stress.

The relationship between dietary habits and lifestyle and psoriasis has not yet been fully elucidated. It is beneficial to avoid gluten, sugar and dairy products that increase inflammation in the body. At the same time, patients should be careful about which of the foods they consume put the disease into an exacerbation period.

Stress is an important trigger factor for psoriasis. Combating the stress of life can be beneficial both in reducing flare-ups and in controlling symptoms. Breathing exercises, meditation and yoga are among the methods that can be used for stress control.
